Our fully outdoor nursery programme for children aged 2 to 5. Set in beautiful Scottish woodland, children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on activities in nature — developing curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Little Bugs offers a nurturing, fully outdoor nursery experience where children aged 2 to 5 learn through play, exploration, and the natural world.

Our experienced practitioners guide each child through a rich, play-based curriculum inspired by the natural world. Every day is an adventure — from den building and mud kitchens to forest walks and wildlife spotting.

At Little Bugs, we follow each child's interests and curiosity, weaving learning opportunities into everyday outdoor experiences. Our approach is rooted in recognised early years frameworks and supported by a team of qualified, passionate practitioners.

Our mission

Little Bugs Nurseries offer fully outdoor settings in the Scottish woodlands, providing children aged 2 to 12 with unique learning experiences through nursery care and flexible schooling options. Our locations include Fordell Firs in Dunfermline and Abercorn on the Hopetoun Estate near South Queensferry.

We focus on child-led, play-based learning, encouraging exploration, creativity, and curiosity. Using national frameworks such as the Curriculum for Excellence, we support children's development with a nurturing approach.

Our ethos emphasises risky play to build resilience and confidence, while fostering an understanding of sustainability and stewardship of the environment. We aim to reconnect children with nature, prioritising their health, well-being, and development through outdoor learning.
